Spring Raffle

The spring raffle was a big success.

We earned about $1,500 — the biggest fundraiser raffle in our history.

Special thanks go to those who donated prizes: the Coleman Co. (camping package), Garmin (GPS), and members Bruce Cochran and Jon Blumb (art work).

The winners were Charlie Black (camping package), Greg Freese (GPS), Michelle Hursch (art work) and Jeff Hansen (art work).

Congratulations to all and thanks for helping us in our mission to introduce children to the outdoors

Spring Conference

Members of OWK got a chance to sample western Kansas’ fishing revival when they met May 3-5 in Hays.

After two years of steady rain, the water levels are dramatically higher than they had been in the region. And gamefish such as walleyes, wipers, crappies and bass are responding.

Media members got in on some of that good fishing. The smallmouth bass fishing at Wilson was excellent. And walleyes and big wipers were taken at Webster Reservoir.

Some big crappies also were taken at Kirwin Reservoir, though the numbers weren’t there.

But all in all, it was an outstanding conference
